We always admire firefighters; how they are so brave and responsible. Aside from fire fighting, they also serve the public in other ways. One of their responsibilities is to conduct routine checks in different establishments. They do this to identify and deal with possible fire hazards in the building. They also conduct trainings and teach people what to do when there is fire. In addition, they show them how to use fire safety equipments properly.
Firefighters give so much in the community. They do their best to ensure safety. They also risk their life to save properties and lives.
We know that they dedicate their lives in saving and protecting others but who protects them? What keeps them safe every time they enter a blazing structure?
Fire fighters are highly trained individuals. They study different means to stop the flame and ways to achieve it. Since their jobs are very risky, they have to be ready at all times. When firefighters receive a call, they have to respond right away. However, their head will not send out his men unless he has an assessment of the situation.
Aside from looking at the blueprint of the structure, they should also have fire protection equipment. This is not limited to the water hoses and fire extinguishers. Firefighters need to wear a complete safety gear before getting inside the burning building.
Here are the protective gear they need to keep them safe during their rescue operation:
1. The fire helmet is a very important instrument for these fighters. This is no ordinary helmet because it is fire resistant. It protects them from falling objects, fire, and water. This will prevent serious head injuries while they are fulfilling their duties.
2. They also need a facemask and a breathing apparatus. This device helps them breathe normally as they enter the affected area. Smoke covers these areas. They will suffocate if they do not have the said tools.
3. They also wear the out jackets and turn out pants. The jackets and pants have reflective stripes on them. The stripes are necessary for firefighters to be visible in the dark. The outside materials of the jackets and pants are fire resistant. Their inner materials on the other hand are water resistant. These protect the fighters from the danger of the flame and from the discomfort of the water.
4. Firefighters also carry a rope bag with them. This comes handy when they need to bring a device up. This also serves as a survival tool in case they need to escape.
5. They also need to wear fire fighting boots and gloves. The gloves are heat resistant, which enable firefighters to deal with hot objects. The boots protect their feet from the water and sharp objects they might step on.
